Name checker
Type a name. This asks each registry directly whether the domain exists — and says so when it could not find out.
Nothing checked yet.
What the answer means
¶A registry either holds a record for a domain or it does not. Registered means it holds one. No registry record means it holds none — which is not the same as available: a name can be reserved, priced as premium, blocked by the registry, or sitting in the grace period after a deletion. Only the registrar you buy from settles that. Could not check means the registry did not answer, and nothing should be read into it either way.
What is not covered
¶The questions go to the registries listed in IANA's RDAP bootstrap file. Most country domains are not in it at all — .de, .ch, .io, .co and .me publish no RDAP service there — so they cannot be asked here and are not offered. The list is a dated snapshot rather than a live lookup, and a registry that has moved its endpoint since will come back as could not check.
A domain is not a name
¶Whether a domain is free is one question. Whether anyone else is already performing under the name is a second, and whether the name is registered as a trademark in the territory you work in is a third — and the three have no bearing on each other. A band can hold the domain and no trademark; another can hold the trademark and no domain; two acts can carry the same name for years in different countries and never collide. This page answers only the first question, because it is the only one a registry can answer. For the second, search the streaming services and the usual directories. For the third, the national trademark register, and a lawyer if money is riding on it.
Where the name goes
¶Every other page on this site runs in the browser and sends nothing anywhere. This one cannot: whether a name is registered is a fact only the registry holds, so the name typed here is sent to each registry checked — Verisign, Identity Digital, Google Registry and the rest. It is not sent to us; there is no server of ours in the path. We do not sell domains and earn nothing from any answer on this page.
